Employees of the Nigerian Postal Service on Monday protested against the appointment of Tola Odeyemi as Chief Executive Officer/Postmaster-General.
The protesting workers, who barred the newly appointed NIPOST CEO from entering the service’s Head Office in Abuja, argued that Odeyemi’s appointment was against their wishes.
The workers, who voiced their preference for Adeyemi Adepoju, the removed Postmaster-General, were seen with several placards in support of their former boss.
Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, had previously announced that President Bola Tinubu had sacked the leadership of communication agencies, including NIPOST.
However, confusion ensued shortly after the news of Odeyemi’s appointment, with reports surfacing that Adepoju had been reinstated.
On Friday, NIPOST released a statement claiming that Tinubu had reinstated Rt. Honourable Adeyemi Sunday Adepoju is the Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Service.
The statement cited Adepoju’s outstanding leadership and excellent performance during his prior tenure as the reason for his return.
However, when the newly appointed CEO showed up to resume her post, she met protesting workers chanting Adepoju as their choice.
