The Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi, has tendered his resignation. This decision comes in the wake of his suspension from the Senate over allegations related to the 2024 national budget.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Northern Senators Forum, titled “resignation,” Ningi cited the ongoing developments in the National Assembly and the nation as the basis for his decision.

“I would like to resign my position as the Chairman of the Northern Senators forum. This is, of course, necessitated by unfolding events in the National Assembly, the North, and the nation at large,” the letter stated.

Expressing gratitude to the members of the forum for the opportunity given to him to lead for the past eight months, Ningi emphasized the significance of the forum in fostering the progress and development of Northern Nigeria.

Ningi’s resignation comes amid allegations that N3.7 trillion allocated in the 2024 national budget could not be accounted for in terms of specific projects or locations. This issue led to his suspension from the Senate, prompting him to relinquish his leadership role in the Northern Senators Forum.
