Nine passengers sustained various degrees of burns in an auto crash on the Ogbomoso-Oyo Expressway, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The incident, which occurred in the Sekona area along the expressway, involved a trailer and a truck.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Oyo State, Joshua Adekanye, confirmed the details in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan on Saturday.
He explained that the accident took place around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, resulting in a fire that engulfed the truck.
“The actual cause of the truck, which went on fire, could not be ascertained because it happened at night,” Adekanye said.
He suggested that overspeeding and wrongful overtaking might be the likely causes of the trailer colliding with the truck.
Out of the 13 people involved in the accident, nine sustained burns, while four others escaped unhurt.
The injured victims are being referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The rescue operations were carried out by the RS11.31 Ogbomoso and RS11.312 Oolo Commands, along with the Fire Service and Odo-Oba Police Division.
Adekanye emphasized the importance of motorists avoiding night travel, wrongful overtaking, and dangerous driving to enhance road safety.
