A fatal road accident along the Katsina-Kano highway on Saturday, July 26, 2025, has claimed the lives of nine individuals.
Basiru Lawan, a resident of Dambatta Local Government Area, confirmed the incident, stating that all the victims were from the same local government and had been returning from a wedding ceremony held in Katsina State.
He further disclosed that four of the deceased are believed to be members of a single family.
Road traffic accidents continue to be a leading cause of death in Nigeria. In recent months, multiple fatal incidents have been reported.
More than 14 people were recently burned to death in a separate crash, while another tragedy two months ago claimed the lives of over 20 athletes representing Kano State in a national sporting event.
Experts frequently attribute such occurrences to poor road infrastructure and reckless driving, particularly excessive speeding.
As of the time of this report, neither the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kano nor the state police command has released an official statement regarding the accident.
