At least nine people died, and three others were injured in a road accident along the Kano-Zaria Road.
The crash happened on Wednesday, September 10, 2024, in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.
The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kano State, Abdullahi Labaran, said in a statement on Wednesday that the tragic accident involved a truck and a tricycle, with a total of twelve people involved.
“Unfortunately, nine (9) people lost their lives in the accident, while three (3) others sustained injuries. The victims were immediately evacuated to Kura General Hospital for urgent medical attention,” Labaran stated.
He added that the initial investigation showed the crash was caused by wrongful overtaking, which led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
The Sector Commander of the Kano State FRSC, Corps Commander Ahmed Mohammed, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured. “He has also reiterated the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations, particularly urging drivers to maintain safe speed when approaching major towns along the highways,” Labaran added.
Labaran also advised road users to be cautious and avoid unnecessary loitering and hawking along the highways to prevent similar accidents.
He assured that the FRSC is committed to ensuring safer roads for everyone and will continue to engage in public education and enforcement activities to reduce the number of road traffic accidents.
