Tragedy struck in the early hours of Monday when a fatal accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed nine lives and left three others injured.

The crash, which occurred around 5:30 am near the Ayetoro axis, involved a Toyota bus (UYY165ZY) and a stationary truck (DKA244XC). According to eyewitness reports, the bus driver lost control and rammed into the parked truck, resulting in the devastating collision.

Confirming the incident, Florence Okpe, Spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), attributed the crash to excessive speed and driver fatigue.

“A total of 13 people were involved – 10 male adults and 3 female adults. Unfortunately, nine lives were lost (six men and three women) while three others sustained injuries,” Okpe stated.

She further explained that the injured victims were rushed to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu.

In reaction to the tragic incident, Ogun Sector Commander of the FRSC expressed deep concern over the recklessness of some drivers, particularly their failure to observe speed limits and disregard for the mandatory 15-minute rest after every four-hour journey.

He urged drivers to prioritize safety and adhere strictly to road regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies.

The families of the victims have been advised to visit the Mowe Unit Command for further information regarding the crash.
