Nine individuals have been arrested for engaging in open defecation in the Berger area of Lagos State.

The arrests were made by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps on Friday.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared the news in a post on X.com on Saturday. He wrote, “Nine individuals were arrested for open urination and defecation at Berger last night.”

Wahab also mentioned that 17 people were arrested on Thursday night at Berger for similar offenses, including open urination, defecation, and not using the pedestrian bridge.

The Lagos State government has a zero-tolerance policy on open defecation as part of its efforts to maintain a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for its residents.

In addition to the arrests, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has started a cleanup of the Ojodu-Berger highway median as part of its efforts to end open defecation in the area.
