At least nine passengers were abducted on the Itobe–Anyagba Expressway in Kogi State after gunmen ambushed a commercial bus on Thursday.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, stating that the attack occurred around 4:20 p.m. near Ogbabo Junction.
The assailants, suspected to be armed criminals, reportedly emerged from the bush, fired sporadically, and forced a Peace Mass Transit vehicle to a halt.
According to the report, the driver of the bus, identified as Sunday Okechi, along with six passengers, managed to escape the scene. However, nine other individuals were taken into the nearby forest by the gunmen.
Responding swiftly to the distress, security operatives arrived at the scene and recovered the targeted bus, which bore the registration number ENZ-55 XS, as well as a blue Toyota Carina ‘E’ car. Both vehicles were subsequently secured by authorities.
Joint efforts involving security agencies, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, and local hunters have commenced to track down the perpetrators and rescue the abducted passengers.
