The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has warned that many parts of the country may experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and possible flash floods on Thursday, July 10.

In a weather update released on Wednesday, NiMet said states in the north, including Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, and Bauchi, will start the day with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. Other northern areas will remain mostly sunny with a few clouds.

Stronger weather conditions are expected later in the afternoon and evening, with moderate to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds forecast in Bauchi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno.

In the central part of the country, NiMet predicted morning thunderstorms in Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Niger. By evening, moderate rainfall is expected in Nasarawa, FCT, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and Plateau.

Southern states such as Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom are expected to have cloudy skies and light rain in the morning. This will likely increase to moderate rainfall as the day progresses.

NiMet urged Nigerians to prepare for possible flash floods, wind damage, and traffic disruptions caused by the weather.
