The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has warned residents of Lagos and other coastal states to prepare for possible flash flooding on Tuesday, June 30, as forecasts indicate widespread rainfall across southern Nigeria.

The alert was issued in NiMet’s Tuesday Weather Outlook for June 30, 2026, which predicted persistent rainfall across the southern part of the country throughout the day.

The agency cautioned that prolonged rainfall may result in flash floods, especially in coastal and low-lying communities, including Lagos and other states located along Nigeria’s southern coastline.

NiMet’s forecast also highlighted expected weather patterns in the northern and North Central regions, while urging residents, government authorities and relevant sectors to adopt safety measures in response to the anticipated conditions.

According to the agency, parts of Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states are expected to experience morning thunderstorms with light rainfall. It added that rainfall intensity is likely to increase later in the day, with moderate rainfall expected across the southern region during the afternoon and evening.

The agency said the conditions could later spread to areas including Bauchi, Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Sokoto, Yobe, Gombe and Kebbi states.

NiMet advised residents in affected locations to stay updated on weather developments and remain cautious as rainfall activities are expected to increase during the day.

It further stated that moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected across the region in the afternoon and evening.
