NiMet warns asthmatic patients, airlines amid dusty weather
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued weather predictions for the North and North Central states, indicating sunny and hazy conditions from Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
Additionally, NiMet cautioned about cloudy and hazy weather in coastal cities like Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states, with limited chances of isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.
In its Weather Report released in Abuja on Tuesday, NiMet provided a three-day climate forecast. The agency advised airline operators to obtain updated weather reports for effective operational planning. NiMet also urged individuals with asthma and respiratory issues to be cautious of the weather conditions.
“Airline operators are urged to obtain updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning of their operations.
“Individuals with asthma and other respiratory issues are advised to be cautious of the weather conditions”, the report said.
The report further stated “Slight dust haze is expected over the Inland areas of the South during the forecast period while, few clouds in the hazy atmosphere is expected over the coastal cities with slim prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states during the afternoon/evening period.”
The three-day climate forecast by NiMet is as follows:
Day 1 (Wednesday):
NiMet anticipates a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the North and North Central regions. There’s a slight dust haze expected over the inland areas of the South, with a few clouds in a hazy atmosphere predicted over the coastal cities. Slim prospects of isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states during the afternoon and evening.
Day 2 (Thursday):
NiMet predicts a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the North and North Central regions. Few patches of clouds are expected in a hazy atmosphere over the inland areas of the South and coastal cities, with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta states in the afternoon and evening.
Day 3 (Friday):
NiMet anticipates a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the North and North Central regions. Few patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere are expected over the inland areas of the South and the coastal belt, with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Edo, Bayelsa, and Delta states in the afternoon and evening.
NiMet emphasized the need for necessary precautions by the public due to the suspension of dust particles in the air.
