NiMet predicts three-day sunshine, haziness from Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued a comprehensive weather forecast projecting sunshine and haziness across the country from Monday to Wednesday. The forecast, released on Sunday in Abuja, provides detailed insights into expected weather conditions.

NiMet anticipates clear skies with haziness on Monday,  in the northern region and north-central states. 

According to the agency, “Patches of cloud in a hazy atmosphere are anticipated during the morning hours over the inland cities of the south and coastal areas.” 

Moreover, there is a likelihood of early morning mist in specific regions, including Lagos, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ekiti, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Cross River states.

NiMet further predicts localized thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening over parts of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Bayelsa states. The agency maintains a consistent forecast of sunny and hazy conditions over the north and north-central states throughout the period.

The morning hours in inland cities of the south and the coastal belt are expected to witness patches of cloud in a hazy atmosphere. 

NiMet emphasizes the likelihood of localized thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening over parts of Delta, Lagos, Abia, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Edo, Bayelsa, and Rivers states.

Moving to Wednesday, NiMet predicts sunny skies within a hazy atmosphere in the northern region and north-central states. 

The morning over inland cities of the south and the coastal belt is expected to feature sunny skies with cloud patches. The agency also foresees localized thunderstorms in parts of Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states during the afternoon and evening.

NiMet issues a precautionary statement, stating, “Dust particles are in suspension; the public should take the necessary precautions. People with asthma and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather situation.” 

It advises airline operators to obtain updated weather reports for effective planning, especially considering the possibility of strong winds preceding or accompanying thunderstorms.

In emphasizing safety, NiMet urges citizens to take necessary precautions against potential risks. “Strong wind is likely to precede or accompany the thunderstorm; citizens are advised to take necessary safety precautions. Disaster risk managers, agencies, and individuals should be proactive to avert loss of lives and property,” the agency cautions.
