The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted a three-day spell of hazy and thundery weather conditions across the country from Sunday to Tuesday In a weather forecast released on Saturday in Abuja.
According to NiMet’s outlook, the Northern region is expected to experience dust haze during this period, with possibilities of thunderstorms over parts of Taraba and Kaduna states in the afternoons and evenings.
NiMet outlined the weather expectations for various regions during the forecast period. It mentioned, “A sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds are expected over the North Central with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory during the afternoon and evening period.”
The weather agency also detailed expectations for other parts of the country. “Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected over the inland states and the coastal cities of the South with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Lagos state. Later in the day, thunderstorms are envisaged over parts of Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Abia, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River during the afternoon and evening period,” it stated.
NiMet emphasized that Monday would see a continuation of hazy and sunny conditions over the Northern and North Central regions. Thunderstorms were expected over parts of Niger, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue during this period.
For Tuesday, the forecast indicated cloudy skies with sunshine intervals in the Northern region, with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Gombe, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Taraba during the afternoon and evening period.
The agency urged the public to take precautions, as strong winds might precede the rains in areas prone to thunderstorms. NiMet also highlighted the significance of staying hydrated, especially in the North, where temperature values remain high.
“People with respiratory issues are advised to be cautious of the present weather situations and stay hydrated as temperature values are still high, especially in the North,” NiMet advised.
Additionally, NiMet recommended that airline operators stay updated with weather reports and forecasts from the agency for effective planning in their operations.
