NiMet forecasts three days of haze, sunshine nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted a mix of haze, sunshine and isolated thunderstorms across the country from Wednesday to Friday.

NiMet made this known in its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the agency, the northern part of the country will experience sunny and hazy conditions throughout the three-day forecast period.

It said, “Sunny and hazy skies are anticipated over the northern region throughout the forecast period.”

For the southern states, NiMet predicted mostly sunny conditions with patches of cloud, as well as chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall in some areas.

The agency said parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states may experience thunderstorms with light rain later in the day on Wednesday.

Looking ahead to Thursday, NiMet said sunny and hazy skies would persist over the northern and central regions, while the southern region would see sunshine with cloud patches.

It stated, “Chances of thunderstorms with light rains are expected over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states during the morning hours.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states.”

On Friday, the agency forecast sunny and hazy weather over the northern region in the morning, with dust haze expected in the afternoon and evening hours.

NiMet also said the central region would experience sunny and hazy conditions during the period.

For the southern region on Friday, the agency predicted cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning, alongside possible isolated thunderstorms and light rain in parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

The agency warned that dust particles are currently in suspension over the North Central region.

“Dust particles are in suspension over the North Central region; the public should take necessary precaution,” NiMet said.

It advised people with asthma and other respiratory conditions to be cautious due to the prevailing weather.

NiMet also urged motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency for proper planning.

“Residents are advised to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet,” the agency added.
