The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has warned of dust haze and thunderstorms across several parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday.

In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency advised citizens to take precautions and remain alert to changing weather conditions.

NiMet said slight dust haze would affect Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Borno, and parts of Kaduna States on Monday, while other northern areas would experience sunny conditions.

It added that isolated thunderstorms were expected in parts of southern Taraba in the afternoon and evening, with sunny skies and patches of clouds in the central region.

According to the forecast, thunderstorms are also likely in parts of Benue and Kogi later in the day, while southern states will see cloudy skies and light morning rainfall.

Late morning thunderstorms are expected over Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos States, followed by moderate rainfall in some southwestern and southeastern states by evening.

For Tuesday, NiMet predicted a sunny and hazy atmosphere in the North and isolated thunderstorms over southern Taraba later in the day.

“Sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected over the central states, with chances of isolated thunderstorms later in the day in parts of Kogi, Benue, and Kwara States,” the agency said.

The southern region, it noted, would experience cloudy conditions in the morning across Ogun, Lagos, and Cross River States, while moderate thunderstorms could develop later in the afternoon and evening.

On Wednesday, NiMet forecast sunny skies in the northern region and sunny conditions with patches of clouds across the central region throughout the day, with thunderstorms likely later in some areas.

It said isolated thunderstorms with light rain were expected over Kwara, Benue, and Kogi States, while moderate thunderstorms would affect southern states such as Abia, Anambra, Imo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta.

NiMet cautioned motorists to drive carefully during hazy and rainy weather, noting that dust particles might lower visibility and air quality in northern areas.

It also urged people with asthma or other respiratory conditions to avoid exposure to dust and remain indoors during heavy haze.

Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather updates and flight documentation from NiMet to ensure safety and avoid delays.

The agency encouraged Nigerians to stay updated through its website and social media channels for daily weather information.
