The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has warned that parts of the country will experience dust haze and rainfall between Monday and Wednesday.
In its weather report released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency said states in the northern region including Borno, Zamfara, Kaduna, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina will experience slight dust haze with good visibility on Monday.
NiMet added that Taraba and Adamawa States could record isolated thunderstorms and light rain in the afternoon or evening hours.
According to the forecast, the central states such as the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Kogi will witness sunny weather with patches of clouds, followed by isolated thunderstorms and light rain later in the day.
“Cloudy conditions are expected in the southern region on Monday morning, with isolated thunderstorms and light rains in parts of Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom,” NiMet said.
It added that by afternoon and evening, moderate rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.
The agency also projected that the dust haze would continue on Tuesday in the northern states, while Taraba and Adamawa may still record light rain and isolated thunderstorms.
Sunny skies with intermittent clouds are expected in the central region, with early morning thunderstorms in Benue and later moderate rainfall across FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi.
For the southern states, NiMet forecast cloudy skies with moderate rainfall in Rivers, Cross River, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom in the morning, increasing in intensity later in the day.
On Wednesday, NiMet said the northern region will experience sunny conditions, though Taraba may still see isolated thunderstorms and light rain later in the day.
It said the central states will have sunny skies with patches of clouds and light rain over Kogi and the FCT, while the southern states will see cloudy skies in the morning and moderate rainfall later across Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet also warned of possible flash floods in parts of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River and advised local authorities to activate emergency measures.
The agency further cautioned people with respiratory issues to reduce outdoor activities due to dust in the atmosphere in the northern region.
