NiMET forecasts three-day sunshine, haze nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has released a weather forecast predicting sunshine and haziness nationwide from Sunday to Tuesday. 

In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, NiMet anticipates a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the northern and north-central states during the forecast period, with a moderate dust haze and visibility range of 2km to 5km expected over the inland states.

NiMet’s forecast highlights early morning mist or fog along the coastal states, accompanied by patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere during the afternoon and evening hours. 

According to the agency, “Dust particles are in suspension, [the] public should take necessary precaution. People with Asthma and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather situation.”

For Monday, NiMet expects a continuation of the sunny and hazy conditions over the Northern, North Central, and Inland states, with early morning mist/fog expected over the Coastal states. Patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere are anticipated over the coastal states during the afternoon and evening hours.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, NiMet predicts slight dust haze over the northern states, while the North Central and Inland states are expected to experience a sunny and hazy atmosphere. Coastal states are likely to have patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere throughout the forecast period.

NiMet advises airline operators to stay updated with weather reports for effective planning in their operations. 

The agency also calls on disaster risk managers, agencies, and individuals to be proactive in averting potential loss of lives and property, stating, “Disaster Risk Managers, Agencies, and individuals should be proactive, to avert loss of lives and property.”
