NIMC records 117m NIN registrations, Lagos, Kano leads

The National Identity Management Commission has recorded a total of 117 million registrations for the National Identity Number as of February 28, 2025.

According to the latest statistics from the NIMC dashboard, 66.2 million of the registered individuals are male, while 51 million are female.

Lagos State recorded the highest number of enrolments with over 12.6 million registrants, followed by Kano with 10.2 million.

The report also highlighted that NIN registrations are almost evenly distributed between the North and the South.

Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Ekiti states ranked the lowest in enrolment figures. Bayelsa recorded 758,111 registrations, Ebonyi had 990,775, and Ekiti registered 1,143,102 individuals.

Other states with low registration numbers include Cross River, Taraba, Yobe, Kogi, Enugu, Kwara, and Imo.

Lagos had the highest enrolment figures, with over 6.8 million males and 5.7 million females.

Kano followed closely, with 5.9 million males and 4.3 million females. Kaduna recorded 6.9 million registrations, while Ogun, Oyo, Katsina, Abuja, Rivers, Delta, and Bauchi also featured among the top states with high NIN registrations.

The NIMC continues to push for nationwide registration as part of efforts to strengthen identity management and national security.
