Nigeria’s version of Maduka Okoye, Fans drool over Super Falcons debutant Ashleigh Plumptre
British-Nigerian, Ashleigh Plumptre, who made her debut for the Super Falcons in their 2-0 victory over the Lady Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire on Friday, has become the darling of football fans in the country.
The daughter of a Nigerian dad and a British mom, who plays for Leicester City in the FA Women’s League, was however not the only debutant for the Falcons at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Ifeoma Onumonu also made her first appearance for the team, scoring the two goals; while Plumptre was rock-solid in defence and gave the assist for Onumonu’s second goal.
The win was in the first leg match of the team’s final round fixture in the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The performance of the Plumptre seemed to get several male fans gushing since yesterday.
Many opined that she should be held dearly in a similar fashion that female football lovers adore Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, who made his first appearance for the Eagles at the just concluded 2021 AFCON.
@Mondaylee says, “Guys, if you missed the Super Falcons match yesterday, ensure you don’t miss the next one. The ladies have Maduka Okoye, Ashleigh Plumptre is for the guys.”
@ChukwudiI tweet reads, “Any player that tackles Ashleigh Plumptre anyhow will hear from us.”
@StillOnStill14 wrote, “Plumptre for the boys, Okoye for the girls.”
