Nigeria’s Moffi, Boga to terminate Nice contract over fan attack

Nigeria striker Terem Moffi and his OGC Nice teammate, Jérémie Boga, have begun the process to terminate their contracts with the French club following an alleged violent attack by fans in November 2025.

Reports say both players were assaulted by angry supporters at the club’s training ground after Nice suffered a 3-1 defeat to Lorient. They were reportedly insulted, spat on and physically attacked, an incident that has kept them away from competitive football since then.

According to French outlet L’Équipe, Moffi and Boga have formally approached the league to initiate contract termination procedures. Their contracts with Nice are due to expire in the summer of 2027.

The incident is said to have happened on November 30, shortly after Nice recorded their sixth straight defeat in all competitions. Moffi was reportedly targeted after he was seen laughing with Lorient president Loïc Féry on Ligue 1 Plus after the match. Boga, on the other hand, had earlier invited Olympique de Marseille fans to the Allianz Riviera before a 5-1 loss to their rivals, an action for which he later apologised.

Since the attack, both players have been placed on medical leave, which was initially expected to last one week but has been repeatedly extended.

“Since the incident, Boga and Moffi have been unable to return to first-team training,” Get French Football News reported.

The report added, “The players’ lawyers have now moved to see their contracts terminated, on the basis that the necessary measures to ensure their security were not taken by the club.”

It was also revealed that both players have opened legal proceedings against those allegedly responsible for the attack.

A meeting with the league’s judicial commission is expected to take place on Thursday, where the matter will be reviewed.

Moffi, 26, recently recovered from an injury that had ruled him out since October. He has featured in 10 matches for Nice this season, scoring two league goals, before the incident halted his campaign.

Neither OGC Nice nor the French league has officially commented on the latest development as of the time of filing this report.
