Nigeria’s first professional model, Yemi Fawaz, has died aged 64.
The news of her death was confirmed by her daughter, Magdalene OluwaTobi Fawaz, on her Facebook page.
She wrote; “It is with great sadness that I am announcing the passing of my Mother Deaconess Yemi Fawaz.
“We thank God for her well-lived life and for her strong faith in the Lord Almighty.
“Her homegoing arrangements will be announced soon. I ask that you keep our family in your prayers and I am grateful that she was able to touch you all in so many ways.
According to multiple reports, the late Fawaz who pioneered professional modelling in Nigeria died after a long battle with cancer.
Deaconess Fawaz started her modelling career and became a supermodel in the late 70s.
She left Nigeria in 1997 and didn’t return until 2016. She is survived by her 33-year-old daughter.
Till her death she was the president/ chief operations at banner of love internationa outreach.
Fawaz is single and studied Hotel, Restaurant, Culinary & Tourism Management at New York Food And Hotel Management.
