Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Sanni, Nigeria’s first female fighter pilot, has once again made the country proud by winning two major awards at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Accra.

She was honoured on Friday as the Best Allied Student and also won the award for Best Assistant Commandant Paper. The awards were presented during the college’s graduation ceremony, which was attended by senior military officers and dignitaries from across Africa.

Flt Lt Sanni first gained national attention in 2019 when she became the Nigerian Air Force’s first female fighter pilot after completing her training in the United States.

Since then, she has flown the Alpha Jet and also trained younger pilots using the Super Mushshak aircraft. She is known for her skills as a pilot and her dedication as an instructor.

The Nigerian Air Force says her success highlights the benefits of investing in training and human development. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has been praised for encouraging excellence and preparing more officers like Sanni to take on leadership roles.
