Watford's Emmanuel Dennis celebrates scoring their first goal

Nigeria international, Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis, scored the opener on his Watford debut as The Hornets marked their Premier League return with a dramatic 3-2 win over Aston Villa.

Dennis who joined Watford last month from Belgian giant, Club Brugge, is one of the Nigerian trio of Oghenekaro Etebo and William Troost-Ekong who play for the Premier League newcomers.

It took just ten minutes for the 23-year-old to make his mark in the Premier League by netting Watford’s opener in front of the home crowd.

Dennis was influential as Watford extended their lead by teeing up Ismaïla Sarr to make it 2-0 three minutes before the break.

Fellow newcomer, Cucho Hernández, made it 3-0 for the host in the 67th-minute before John McGinn pulled one back for the visitors there minutes later.

Villa’s new sticker, Danny Ings, netted a penalty (90+7′) to make it a dramatic ending but it wasn’t enough to rescue the visitors from an opening day defeat in the first match after the departure of Jack Grealish to Manchester City.

Dennis becomes the fourth different Nigerian player to score on his Premier League debut, after John Utaka, Peter Odemwingie and Odion Ighalo, according to OptaJoe.
