Nigerians treat us like slaves, Ghanaian cab driver laments

A Ghanaian cab driver, identified as Francis Osei, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the inhumane way their Nigerian employers in Ghana treat them in their country.

The cab driver narrated his ordeal to a Nigerian man, identified as Fola Olatunji-David (@folasanwo), whom he believed treated him better than every other Nigerian he has had encountered with in Ghana.

Olatunji-David, who said he engaged the service of Osei during a recent business trip to Accra, Ghana capital city, took to his Twitter page to share the story of his encounter with the cab driver.

He said the driver was initially cold to him when he discovered he is a Nigerian, but later warmed up to him. Olatunji-Brown said he later got a WhatsApp message from the driver after the trip, narrating his previous experience with Nigerians in Ghana.

In the chat, the driver praised the Nigerian and told him he’s different from other Nigerians who visit Ghana. He said the Nigerians who employ the services of Ghanaians treat them like slaves, with little or no respect. So, it was a surprise for him to meet a Nigerian who was different.

He tweeted:

“A few weeks ago, I was in Accra for work. I met Francis, a 33 year old Ghanaian who was my driver for the day. He initially had a cold reaction when he heard I was Nigerian, but after a full day of treating him like a human being (I did nothing special), I got this.

“It’s rather sad that I get this same reaction in a lot of places I travel to, especially when I do something I consider to just be humane. What exactly are we (Nigerians) doing out there???

“I only remembered this msg because the concierge at the hotel I’m staying mentioned something similar today when I helped keep a door open and insisted to help him carry one of MY parcels he was struggling to balance.”
