Nigerians have shown support for the call by Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reduce the number of registered political parties in the country from 91 to 10.
Falana, in an article on Sunday, titled, “INEC’s fresh power to de-register political parties,” had said if INEC followed the constitutional provisions on de-registration of political parties, not more than 10 of the 91 political parties would survive based on their performances in the just-concluded general elections.
Some Nigerians on social media who have shown their support for the call by the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said it his position is in order and urged INEC to heed to his advise.
A twitter user, Adetunji Benjamin (@evangadetunji) was of the opinion that:
“Nigeria doesn’t need more than three (3)political parties to save cost and time at coalition centres.”
Engr. Mojay said
“Pls. @inecnigeria should speedily deregister political parties who have not met the minimum requirement. The 2019 ballot paper was a complete mess with some parties with a letter as acronym e.g A party. What is that?”
