The Independent National Electoral Commission moments ago announced the postponement of the Edo State governorship election by two weeks.
According to a statement released by INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, the decision to postpone the election was reached at a security meeting held in Benin, the Edo State capital Thursday evening.
WuzupNaija gathers that prior to the announcement, INEC had received a letter from the police and the Department of Security Services advising it to postpone Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.
Responding to queries on why the electoral body had to wait till last minute before it announced the shift in date, the spokesman of the INEC Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Oyakanmi told our correspondent that the letter from the police and DSS was received by the commission around 3pm.
Meanwhile, barely minutes after the postponement of the Edo guber election, Nigerians have been commenting on the INEC decision.
