Nigerian tennis icon Funke Oshonaike crashes new car, escapes death

Nigerian table tennis star, Funke Oshonaike, has revealed that she escaped death after her involvement in a horrific car accident in Kirchheim, Hessen, Germany.

Shocked and traumatized after the accident in her new car, Oshonaike, in a post on her Facebook on Wednesday, thanked God for sparing her life.

The 46-year-old tennis legend told her 4.9 thousand followers that she is still in pain, adding that her new car got completely destroyed during the accident.

She wrote, “HE SAVED ME. What can I say or write, I am still in pain, shock and traumatized! Thank God that no RIP is written on my picture

“Thank you, God, for giving me another chance to live, for making me see my kids again.

“Though my new baby car got destroyed completely, God saved me. I know that He will stop all these storms in my life that didn’t take my life away now and give me back my real laughter soon. I know He will sure surprise me and bless me more soon.

“I will forever be grateful to God for saving me.”

Oshonaike is an 11-time medalist at the All-Africa Games, claiming a gold medal in 2017, six silver medals in different categories in 2011 and 2015, as well as four bronze medals in 2007 and 2015.

During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Oshonaike became the first African woman to play in seven Olympics.

She also became the first woman to join the exclusive International Table Tennis Federation ‘Club of 7’ of players to have competed at seven Olympic Games.
