Nigerian police officer wins Bantamweight Championship in S’Africa

Corporal Juliet Chukwu, a Nigerian policewoman, has made the nation proud by winning the Bantamweight Championship at the Extreme Fighting Championship in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Nigeria Police Force announced this achievement on Saturday through a statement signed by its spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

“This remarkable achievement highlights the growing prowess of Nigerian athletes on the global stage and reinforces the Force’s commitment to excellence in all areas of sports,” the statement read.

Corporal Chukwu’s victory was described as a display of exceptional skill and determination, earning her praise from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

The IGP reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to promoting sports, particularly in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). He noted that the Force had recently introduced MMA into its sporting activities, including the formation of the Nigeria Police MMA Association and organizing the first-ever IGP MMA Open National Championship.

“This commitment has been highlighted by the approval of the demonstration of MMA at the 14th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) – Oluyole 2024,” the IGP stated.

He further pledged continued support for Corporal Chukwu and other police athletes, emphasizing that the NPF aims to achieve excellence across various fields, including sports, crime-fighting, and organizational development.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering an environment that encourages excellence for its officers in all endeavors,” the statement concluded.
