Nigerian passports to be processed in two weeks – Immigration
The Nigeria Immigration Service has revealed that Nigerians can now obtain their international passports within two weeks of registration.
The announcement was made by the NIS Comptroller General, Caroline Adepoju, during the commissioning of the NIS Passport Front Office in Offa on Saturday.
Comptroller General Adepoju, represented by DCG Saadatu Hassan, shared this significant development, stating, “We are now in the era of getting a passport within two weeks, unlike in the past when people waited for weeks before they could get their passport.”
The Comptroller General attributed this positive change to the efforts of the present Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Ojo, and emphasized the efficiency of the new system for the benefit of Nigerians.
She clarified that the passport with 32 pages, valid for five years, is intended for minors, while the 64-page passport, valid for 10 years, is specifically for adults.
Adepoju urged applicants to report any issues during the registration process through official channels and discouraged airing complaints on social media.
“We have people that receive complaints in the office, also report through our website, Facebook page, and other official channels, but don’t drag our name on social media, just to gain attention,” she advised.
Adepoju also highlighted the importance of aligning National Identity Number (NIN) information with passport details to avoid delays in the collection process.
Expressing gratitude to the Olofa of Offa, Oba Muftau Badamasi Esuwoye II, for donating the NIS Passport Office, Adepoju said, “Offa is one of the few states in Nigeria that has two passport offices, and I am happy for them as it will spring up lots of opportunities and help increase economic activities in Offa Town.”
Compt. Aminu Shamsuddin, the State Comptroller of Immigration, appreciated the Olofa of Offa for his support, and thanked Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for the assistance that contributed to the success of the project.
In response, Oba Muftau Badamasi Esuwoye II explained that the establishment of the passport office in Offa was motivated by complaints from his subjects and others about delays in passport collection.
He praised the Minister of Interior and NIS CG for their dedication, to making the initiative a reality.
