Indian authorities have announced the death of a 33-year-old Nigerian, Michael Nzube, from suspected drug overdose.
Local reports said the Nigerian, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital, died on Saturday.
Nzube was riding in a taxi on Thursday morning when he started behaving aggressively, forcing the driver to stop for help near a restaurant. Workers at the restuarant were said to have invited the police but the Nigerian turned violent and assaulted the owner of the restaurant and one of the workers.
Nzube was also alleged to have damaged the taxi.
The Nigerian was controlled and taken to a private hospital in the area.
Police said that the taxi driver said that Nigerian might have had consumed drugs due to which he was behaving violently.
Reports claimed Nzube had been arrested by Indian authorities in 2019 for illegal possession of drugs and was recently released from judicial custody.
On Saturday, the hospital informed the police about the death of Nzube and suspected cause of death to be overdose.
Meanwhile, a Nigerian drug baron, Ekwegbalu James Nzube, 45, was sentenced to death in Vietnam for smuggling drugs into the country.
Nzube was sentenced to death by a court in the southern Tay Ninh Province on Tuesday for trafficking nearly four kilograms of methamphetamine from Cambodia.
Vietnam Insider reported that Nzube said he got acquainted with another Nigerian, Jone, in China in 2014, and that the latter had hired him to transport drugs from Cambodia to Vietnam.
