Nollywood actress Imade Osawaru has offered a heartfelt perspective on love, sacrifice, and the unique way Nigerian men express romance.
In a conversation with Potpourri, the actress shared her personal reflections on relationships, emphasizing that romance in Nigeria often leans more toward meaningful action than grand gestures.
“Nigerian men can be romantic, but romance here is often more practical than dramatic—less candlelit dinners, more showing up when it matters,” Osawaru explained.
Delving deeper into her own experiences, she revealed how a past sacrifice altered her understanding of love and self-worth. According to her, true love should uplift both partners rather than require one to suppress their ambitions for the other.
“As for sacrifice, I once put someone else’s dreams before mine, only to realize love should never cost you your purpose. That experience shaped me: I now believe the greatest romance is when two people push each other to be their best selves, not when one person shrinks for the other to shine,” she said.
Her reflections highlight a growing narrative around love that prioritizes mutual growth, support, and purpose over traditional expectations and performative romance.
