A Nigerian lecturer, Dr. Nsikak Akpan, has been approved by Guinness World Records to attempt a 150-hour marathon lecture, aiming to break the current record.

The existing record for the longest lecture stands at 139 hours, 52 minutes, and 42 seconds, set by Indian Professor Arvin Mishra in 2014.

The event will take place from September 23 to 30 at Foreign Links College, Moro, Osun State, where Dr. Akpan will deliver a lecture on the topic, “Relationships between Man’s Environment and Health.”

Speaking about his motivation, Dr. Akpan, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, said, “I want to use this platform to educate students and the world about the importance of environmental conservation and its impact on human well-being.”

The marathon lecture will not only aim to set a new world record but also serve as a way for Akpan to give back to the academic community by raising awareness about the effects of environmental neglect on human health.

If successful, Dr. Akpan’s 150-hour lecture will establish a new global benchmark for marathon teaching, placing Nigeria in the Guinness World Records.
