Nigerian Friends of Palestine to hold conference in commemoration of Nakba day

Nigerian Friends of Palestine is set to hold 21st National Conference on Palestine to commemorate the 2019 Nakba day.

The Nakba Day also called the “day of the catastrophe” is generally commemorated by the Palestinians on May 15, the day after Israeli Independence Day. For the Palestinians it is an annual day of commemoration of the displacement that preceded and followed the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948.

The conference will hold from 26th to 28th April, 2019 at the Al-Ummah College of Education, Iwo, in Osun state.

According to a statement by the group under the leadership of Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, the Founder and National President of Jama’at Taawunil Muslimeen, the conference will serve as a platform to

“create more awareness, sensitize general public including government officials about the present condition of Palestine, Palestinians and the people expelled from home since 1948.”

The statement further read:

“It will also be used to mark the beginning of 71st Anniversary of Palestine Nakba or “Catastrophe, when the ethnic cleansing of more than 700,000 Palestinians took place along with the destruction of more than 500 villages which is generally commemorated on 15 May of every year.”

“Participants are expected across all South West regions which comprise Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo and Ogun state, including Kwara, the part of North central, Nigeria. The Executive Director of World Assembly of Muslim Youths (WAMY) in Nigeria, Sheikh El-Shami Noshi Shamy and the governor of the State of Osun Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola will be the guests of honour.”

“The history of Palestine and atrocities committed by Israeli against the Palestinian people will be unveiled while also, Leaflets that contain brief history of Palestine will be distributed to the participants for Palestinian remembrance.”
