A young Nigerian doctor, Timileyin Oluseyi, has made history in the United States by winning all eight top awards at his residency graduation ceremony, becoming the first Black doctor in the program to ever achieve this.
Dr Oluseyi, who finished his medical residency with unmatched excellence, was celebrated for his outstanding performance in clinical work, research, leadership, and patient care. He reportedly scored the highest across all areas among his peers.
The program’s director and department chairman were so moved by his achievement that they prostrated before him, copying a traditional Yoruba gesture of deep respect. According to reports, they had studied the culture just to honour him properly.
One faculty member said, “The chairman said, ‘We’ve never seen anything like this. He raised the bar for this program forever.’”
The atmosphere at the graduation was filled with joy as his colleagues, in a humorous moment, gave him a wheelbarrow to carry all his awards home, causing laughter across the room.
The video of the celebration has gone viral, bringing pride to Nigerians at home and abroad.
