The Nigerian DJ Association has temporarily banned all songs by Afrobeats star Burna Boy from being played by its members nationwide, following reports of a physical altercation between the singer and DJ Tunez at a private event in Lagos.
In a statement issued on its official Instagram account, the association said it would conduct a full investigation into the incident, which reportedly occurred at the residence of nightlife entrepreneur Obi Cubana.
“Burna Boy Music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists until further notice. Our team will carry out a proper investigation on last night’s incident involving one of our own, DJ Tunez,” the statement read in part .
The association urged DJs to uphold professionalism, tolerance, and respect within the entertainment community, adding: “We urge DJs in Nigeria to be vigilant and respectful toward any individual artist at their events. Respect among DJs is essential” .
Unverified videos circulating on social media appear to show Burna Boy and DJ Tunez, who is also known as Wizkid’s official DJ, engaged in a confrontation. Some online posts claimed that DJ Tunez was trampled during the incident, though these reports have not been independently verified .
According to a source in Burna Boy’s camp, the confrontation ensued after DJ Tunez, who played at the event, accompanied legendary Afrobeats superstar D’banj to Burna Boy’s section of the VIP lounge. An argument followed between the Grammy-winning artist and DJ Tunez, which then led to a scuffle before Burna Boy was quickly dragged away by his security .
The altercation comes amid a long-running feud between Burna Boy and Wizkid’s camp, which has simmered over past professional disagreements and online trolling. Last November, after Burna Boy faced criticism for ejecting a sleeping fan from a concert, DJ Tunez posted a meme on X announcing that no coffee would be served at his own show, appearing to throw shade at Burna Boy’s subsequent PR efforts .
Amid the growing speculation, DJ Tunez took to social media with a cryptic post, writing: “OGBAFIA NUMBER 1 DON WAKE OOO!” .
As of press time, neither Burna Boy nor his representatives have officially responded to the reports. Wizkid, who is closely associated with DJ Tunez, has yet to make any public statement regarding the incident .
