Five Nigerian designers that will soon rule the world

The fashion industry in Nigeria has proved many times that it is a force to reckon with. There are names that readily come to mind when the industry is mentioned in Nigeria. Frank Osodi, Deola Sagoe Mai Atafo among others are such names.

Yet there are young designers with innovative creations who are less known but are fast rising. These designers are sure to make name for them selves and the country if they keep going in this way, especially with the #BuyNaija movement.

Here are some of these designers

Bridget Awosika

This young designer is one of Nigerian fashion industry’s go getters. She knew what she wanted from very early in life and went for it. She added knowledge to passion when she attended Parsons School of Design. She proceeded to work as an intern at Donna Karen and later Giorgio Armani. After a year at Armani, Awosika was ready to do her own thing. She started her own fashion line and since then every stitch in her works have revealed the quality of a world class fashion designer.

Vovwe Omoko

Vovwe Omoko is the brain behind Ovems Fashion. Like her soothingly crisp contemporary African designs, Vovwe is one of the most outstanding made in Nigeria designers. She formalised the education in her craft at the Department of Textile art at Delta State University where she graduated in 2014. Proceeded to OSC College of Fashion to consolidate her skills. She got her first big break when she won the Most Creative Designer title in Winasbet Nigerian Student Fashion and Design Week in 2014. The event featured over 40 young designers from various states in Nigeria.


Samson Soboye

Samson Soboye is a London based fashion journalist-turned-designer. He showcased his first collection for men’s wear at the Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2013. One of his biggest goals in fashion is to take Nigerian fashion industry – with Ankara based designs – to the world.

Wana Sambo

The brand was launched in December 2010, since then Wana Sambo has not looked back. She is responsible for some of the classiest designs worn by Nollywood actresses. Some of the stars flying the Wana Sambo flag include Waje, Toke Makinwa, Mocheddah and so on. Her collection was described by many as one of the most important collections at the 2013 Lagos Fashion and Design Week.

Adebayo Ayieola


Adebayo Ayieola is the brains behind Ama Ariol. The brand is responsible for dressing celebs like Timini Egbuson, Uti Nwachukwu among others.
