A 38-year-old woman, Hajiya Tabawa Ado, recently deported from Saudi Arabia, has tragically taken her own life by jumping into a stream in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The incident occurred on Christmas Day.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command, confirmed the incident.

The NSCDC spokesman stated, CSC Adamu Shehu, “The NSCDC received information that a 38-year-old woman, Hajiya Tabawa Ado Musa, plunged into a stream called Rafin Kainuwa located at Marakawa Ringim town in Ringim Local Government Area. Her corpse was later discovered on Tuesday and was taken to Ringin General Hospital and was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”

The woman reportedly decided to escape persistent harassment from the agent who sponsored her trip to Saudi Arabia.

According to an anonymous resident, she faced challenges while working as a house help in Saudi Arabia, leading to her decision to run away.

However, upon her arrest and subsequent deportation to Nigeria, the agent insisted on repayment of the sponsorship funds.

“Women and men have been traveling to Saudi Arabia in search of greener pastures, where some women serve as house helps. She was sponsored to Saudi Arabia, and when she arrived there and saw that she could not bear the kind of maltreatment in the house she was working, she decided to run, and in the process, she was arrested and deported back to Nigeria. Therefore, the agent has been asking her to pay him back his money, which she doesn’t have. I later heard that she drowned in Kafin Kainuwa stream and died,” the resident explained.

Investigations revealed that the woman had been suffering from epilepsy for some years.

She leaves behind a husband and children, and she has been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
