Nigeria wrestling federation to commence national trials Saturday

The Nigeria Wrestling Federation has unveiled the dates for the national trials ahead of the 2024 Africa Games in Accra, Ghana, and the Olympic Qualifiers. 

President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, has confirmed that the trials are set to take place from February 3rd to February 4th, 2024, at the Ultra Modern Wrestling Arena PDP Road, Yenizue-gene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State Capital.

In emphasizing the significance of the upcoming events, Igali stated, “This is a really big year for sports and the Nigeria Wrestling Federation. We have the African Games and Olympic Qualifiers.”

He went on to outline the format of the trials, indicating that they will serve as a platform to select the country’s representatives from the top three wrestlers in the 22 Olympic weight categories. However, he noted that Odunayo Adekuoroye has already secured qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Addressing the competitive nature of the trials, Igali remarked, “So this weekend promises to be intense because everyone will be looking out for an Olympic slot and representing Nigeria in the African Games in Accra, Ghana.”
