The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the country’s security to attract more foreign investment.

This pledge was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, during a courtesy visit from the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs. Annika Hahn-Englund, and her delegation in Abuja.

“We are gradually winning the war against terrorism and violent extremism going by the various measures put in place so far to tackle the menace headlong,” said Dr. Tunji Ojo. He assured the delegation that “Nigeria is the best-kept secret on global investment hence your investment is safe and secured in Nigeria.”

Tunji Ojo expressed a desire for more collaborations with Sweden, particularly in economics, business, and migration control. He praised the strong trade relationship between Nigeria and Sweden, noting that their trade volume has now reached $183 million.

“We value our relationship with Sweden. Trade relationship from 1995 has been on the increase from $29.6 million. At the moment it is US $183 million which is a 6.7% annual increase in terms of trade volume. This shows that the collaboration and partnership are working because when your growth rate goes to about 6.97 per cent which is almost 7 per cent per annum, it shows that the relationship is working well,” he explained.

The minister emphasized that the Federal Government is making efforts to significantly improve the security situation to stimulate more foreign investment and cooperation.

Earlier, Ambassador Hahn-Englund stated that her visit aimed to learn more about the priorities of the Ministry of Interior, get updates on Nigeria’s security situation, and discuss Swedish investments in Nigeria.
