Nigeria has won the bid to host the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy, a prestigious ladies’ golf championship in Africa.

This will mark the third time Nigeria hosts the biennial tournament, following successful editions in 1996 at Ikoyi Club 1938 and in 2010 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.

The announcement was made by Evelyn Oyome, President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, who led the country’s delegation to the championship’s 16th edition in Morocco. Oyome revealed that Nigeria emerged as the winner among 20 countries that vied for the hosting rights.

Speaking on Nigeria’s bid, she highlighted the success of the West and Central Africa Challenge Trophy held in 2023 at the Lakowe Lakes Golf Estates and Resort, Lagos, as a major factor in securing the AACT hosting rights.

“Hosting that championship successfully last year gave us the edge among other countries that bidded. Winning was a huge victory for Nigeria,” Oyome said.

The 2026 AACT will take place in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with over 30 countries expected to participate. According to Oyome, Abuja was selected as the host city due to its excellent facilities and ability to meet all the required criteria.

“The AACT is a great opportunity to promote Nigeria. It is indeed equivalent to the Africa Cup of Nations in football,” Oyome added.

The AACT’s 16th edition, held in Morocco at the Golf de Tazegzout in Agadir from November 28 to 30, saw the Moroccan national women’s team claim victory. The competition featured 20 nations, including South Africa, which has won 14 of the past 15 editions.
