Nigeria to honour Lagbaja for seven days

President Bola Tinubu has ordered that Nigeria’s national flags be flown at half mast for seven days to mourn the passing of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja,who died on Tuesday night after a prolonged illness

He was appointed by Tinubu on June 19, 2023, and served the nation until his passing.

In a statement on Wednesday, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, conveyed the president’s condolences, stating, “President Bola Tinubu has expressed regret following the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, after a brief illness.”

“The President has directed that national flags be flown at half mast throughout the country for seven days in honour of the departed Army chief.

“He profoundly appreciates the services of the departed to the nation and wishes the family the fortitude to bear the great loss.”

The president acknowledged the Army chief’s dedication to the nation and extended his sympathies to the bereaved family.
