Nigeria ranked one of world’s largest producers of Yam
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture says the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has ranked Nigeria as one of the largest producers of Yam in the world.
FAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.
The Agriculture ministry revealed this in a tweet via its verified Twitter handle @FmardNG.
The ministry tweeted:
“The @FAO has ranked Nigeria as one of the World’s largest producers of Yam with about 60% of the Global production of the product.
“The PS @FmardNg Dr. M.B Umar, disclosed this in Abuja at the National Awareness Workshop on Yam, organized by the Advocacy and Resource Mobilization Team (ARMT) of Yam Improvement for Income and Food Security in West Africa (YIIFSWA), an initiative of the @IITA_CGIAR.”
