Nigeria Police Force goofs on Twitter, handle describes retiring CP as ‘unqualified’

The official Twitter handle of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) committed a faux pas on Tuesday as it erroneously wrote that the retiring Kano state Commissioner of Police Wakili Mohammed is leaving the force after years of ‘unqualified’ service.

The handle was announcing the change of baton at the Kano state police command when it posted the error.

Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had ordered the deployment of CP Ahmed Iliyasu to Kano State Command as Commissioner of Police in charge of the State following the retirement of Mohammed after 35 years in service.

In a thread announcing the IGP’s order, the NPF’s verified Twitter handle @PoliceNG erroneously wrote that Mohammed retired from the force after 35 years of “unqualified” meritorious service.

“He takes over from CP Wakili Mohammed, who retired from the Force on 26th May, 2019 after 35years of unqualified meritorious service to the Force and the Nation at large,” the handle wrote in the third tweet on the thread.

Despite being spotted by Twitter users who have been poking fun at the error, the tweet is yet to be corrected neither was it taken down as at 1:50pm on Tuesday, four hours after it was posted.
