The Nigeria Police Force has extradited a Chinese fugitive, Dai Qisheng, to China after his arrest in Abuja, in what authorities described as a landmark INTERPOL operation against international crime.

Qisheng, identified as a gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province for organising violent crimes, fled China in 2024 after the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County issued a warrant for his arrest. He reportedly sought refuge in Nigeria until operatives of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja tracked and arrested him in the Federal Capital Territory on August 8, 2025.

Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed in a statement on Sunday that Qisheng was extradited to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under an agreement coordinated by INTERPOL in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.

“The Nigeria Police Force, in a landmark operation executed through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau Abuja, has successfully repatriated a high-profile fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China,” Adejobi said. “This decisive action, carried out in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria, underscores the Force’s unyielding commitment to its fight against transnational organised crime.”

According to Adejobi, surveillance and intelligence operations led to Qisheng’s arrest in Abuja. “Following his arrest, the fugitive was repatriated on 15th August 2025 to Beijing under the established framework of police-to-police cooperation, coordinated by INTERPOL,” he added.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised the coordinated operation, saying it sends a strong message to international criminals that Nigeria will not be a safe haven.

“This operation not only reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to ensure that no fugitive finds a safe haven within Nigeria but also reflects the strength of international partnerships in addressing the increasingly complex threats of global crime networks,” Egbetokun said.

He further stated that the police will continue to strengthen intelligence-sharing and operational collaboration to tackle transnational crimes effectively. “The arrest and repatriation of Dai Qisheng is a clear message to criminals worldwide that the Federal Republic of Nigeria will not be a hiding place for fugitives,” he said.
