Nigeria crush Sudan in five-goal thriller to qualify for U23 AFCON
Nigeria U23 football team proved too hot for their visitors on Tuesday after crushing the Sudanese 5-0 to secure their qualification ticket for the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Nigeria, who lost the first leg of their final qualifying round fixtures by a lone goal in Al-Merreikh, Sudan on Friday, overwhelmed the Sudanese in the returning leg at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba, Delta State in a five-goal thriller.
Taiwo Awoniyi scored the opener in the 10th-minute. Ndifriek Effiong scored a brace in the 26th minute and at stoppage time before half time to put Nigeria at 3-0.
Sunday Faleye who came in as a substitute increased Nigeria’s goals to four in the 66th-minute while Ibrahim Sanusi converted Faleye’s assist to seal up the qualifier with the fifth goal in the 68th-minute.
Nigeria have now qualified for the 2019 U23 AFCON in Egypt in November.
