The home-based Super Eagles on Friday defeated their Libyan counterparts 1-0 in the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) keeping hopes of progressing to the next round alive.

The Eagles got the winner in the 79th minute courtesy a Sunday Faleye’s goal.

Nigeria temporarily move to the top of Group C with four points from two games, while awaiting the result of the tie between Rwanda and Equatorial Guinea.

In the first qualifier played on Monday against Rwanda, goal attempts by Faleye, Rabiu Ali and Stephen Eze were foiled by the woodwork during a match which Nigeria dominated from start to finish.

Meanwhile, Libyan Saleh Taher Saeid punished slack defending to score twice within 17 minutes of the kick-off and set up a convincing victory over debutants Equatorial Guinea in their first match.

A Zakaria Alharash tap-in three minutes from time completed a routine victory with all the goals created by Mohamed Aleyet.
