The Niger State Government on Monday welcomed 100 schoolchildren who were abducted last month from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.

Governor Mohammed Bago received the pupils at the Government House in Minna, the state capital, a day after security authorities secured their release.

“Welcome,” Bago said as he shook hands with some of the children and escorted them into a hall where the emir and other local officials were present to receive them.

The students were among those kidnapped when gunmen attacked the remote Papiri community on November 21.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the school around 2 a.m., arriving on motorbikes, and remained on the premises for nearly three hours.

In total, 315 individuals — 303 students and 12 teachers — were abducted during the raid.
