Niger police thwart robbery attempt, recover AK-47

The Niger State Police Command successfully prevented an armed robbery attempt at a mining site located in Iwa village, near Gawu Babangida, within the Gurara Local Government Area of the state.

According to Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson of the Command, the police swiftly responded to a distress call on Saturday and engaged the armed robbers in a fierce gun battle at the mining site.

After several hours of exchange of fire, the armed robbers managed to escape from the scene, fleeing through a nearby forest.

Some of the suspects were believed to have sustained gunshot injuries during the confrontation.

Abiodun stated that the victims of the attempted robbery were rescued unharmed, thanks to the timely intervention of the police.

In addition to foiling the robbery, the police team successfully recovered an AK-47 rifle and an empty magazine from the scene.

In a separate incident, the Niger State Police Command apprehended two suspects in the Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, Auta Umar Saidu, 25, and Mohammed Bala, 52, were arrested in Muwo village while attempting to transport sixteen bags of suspected Indian Hemp to Ndayako village.
