The Niger State Government has started giving out N1 million to each household affected by the recent flood in Mokwa Local Government Area.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, represented by his deputy Yakub Garba, flagged off the disbursement this week. He said the funds are part of the N1 billion relief package earlier promised to help victims resettle temporarily while the government waits for federal support to build permanent homes.

Governor Bago explained that every affected household received N1 million, while shop owners whose businesses were damaged got N500,000 each. Food items were also shared to help reduce their suffering.

“This money is to give quick relief and help the people start again,” he said. “We are fully committed to making sure no community is left behind.”

He added that the state is ready to work with the Federal Government and other partners to find lasting solutions to floods and protect communities from future disasters.
