The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has congratulated Nigerian-born nurse and social media personality, Bemi Orojuogun, popularly known as “London Bus Aunty”, on the naming of a London bus stop in her honour.
The Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the recognition as a remarkable achievement and a source of pride to Nigeria and the Nigerian diaspora .
In a statement issued on Friday by NiDCOM Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa said, “Mrs Orojuogun’s journey demonstrates how passion, authenticity and a positive representation of one’s heritage can create an impact far beyond the shores of Nigeria” .
The statement added, “Orojuogun, who became widely known for her engaging videos featuring London’s iconic red buses, has used her platform to showcase everyday life in the city while connecting with audiences through her unique personality and love for London’s transport system” .
The NiDCOM Chairman commended her for bringing joy to many people through her content and for positively representing Nigerians in the United Kingdom. The honour comes after years of Orojuogun turning her love for London buses into a distinctive online identity . Her videos, which feature her standing at strategic locations as buses pass behind her, have attracted millions of views across social media platforms . She later clarified that the apparent closeness to the buses was a result of camera angles and video illusions, noting that she maintains a safe distance while filming .
Orojuogun, a mental health nurse who has lived in the United Kingdom for more than three decades, rose to global fame through her distinctive content . Her unusual content initially sparked concerns among viewers who questioned her safety, but she turned her fascination with London’s iconic red buses into a recognisable online brand .
Beyond her social media success, she has collaborated with major brands including Burberry, H&M, IKEA, Jacquemus, and Maybelline . In 2025, she won the TikTok UK and Ireland Video of the Year award . She is also among the Nigerians nominated for the 2026 MOBO Awards in the Best Media Personality category .
She recently met Nigerian music star Davido during his London tour, fulfilling what she had previously described as one of her dream collaborations .
Orojuogun had announced on Wednesday that she had a bus stop named after her in London, thanking TfL for the recognition .
“Bus Auntie have her own bus stop. My goodness, I’m very lucky. Thank you so much, TfL. I love you guys. I love everyone that works so hard on behalf of all Londoners. Thank you for working so hard,” she said in a video shared on Instagram .
TfL responded to her post, saying, “What an honour for us” .
The NiDCOM chairman said the honour further underscored the contributions Nigerians continue to make in their various fields and communities across the world . She encouraged Orojuogun to see the recognition as an inspiration to continue using her platform positively, while assuring Nigerians in the diaspora that their achievements and contributions remained a source of pride to the nation .
